… will be helping them separate the Church from the political subculture of conservative Catholic media outlet and Folk Heroes they have assumed to be identical with it. A number of people are, I fear, struggling with a shaken faith because their Folk Heroes have been revealed to have feet of clay. To them, I say, “Don’t lose your faith in Christ or the Church over this. All that has been shaken is a contract you made with God that he never signed. The Faith is as sound as ever. It is only some idols that God has smashed.
