This report was just released by the Office of the Inspector General and the photos included in that report are just incredible. Scroll down. Photo after photo that will just stun and horrify you.
82 men jammed into a room built for 41 so it is *standing room only*. SOME ADULTS HAVE BEEN IN STANDING ROOM ONLY CONDITIONS FOR A WEEK!!!
This isn’t about politics. This is about the most fundamental of human rights.
“The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) internal watchdog found squalid conditions in several detention centers for migrant families and children in Texas, including “serious” overcrowding, minors going without hot meals for days and detainees begging not to be returned to their cells, according to a new report released Tuesday. The DHS Office of Inspector General publicly released its findings — along with photos documenting the overcrowding in detention cells — on Tuesday after it conducted inspections of five Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities in south Texas in June.
“We are concerned that overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety of DHS agents and officers, and to those detained,” the report said.”
Compare and contrast with this blatant, out and out lie from Fr. Frank Pavone:
Note yet again the pattern. The “prolife” Christianist always claims that abortion and family values are his #1 priority. We cannot, they always say, be “distracted” by stuff like immigration because, in the words of Catholic Vote’s Eric Sammons, it will “dilute” the prolife “brand” (telling phrase). But then the supposed focus on abortion always turns into a defense of the evil the “prolife” champion is supposedly urging us to ignore. And that is the sleight of hand. For in reality the unborn are human shields for his real #1 priority: passionately defending whatever sadistic cruelty, grift, or lie the GOP commands him to defend.
That is the pattern over and over and over for 35 years. That’s the real reason conservative white Catholics sneer with contempt at the Seamless Garment and the Church’s Consistent Life Ethic. It’s about using the unborn to make war on the Church’s full teaching, not about prioritizing the unborn. Because that full teaching is a deadly threat to nearly everything the GOP wants to do. If the unborn were the priority, people like Dobson and Pavone would be talking about the unborn, not instructing their followers to defend this filth or regaling us with their views on the census. It is always about defending the cruelty and selfishness of the cult of Trump, not about saving unborn human lives for “prolife” Christian-Republican Industrial Complex.
If you are “prolife” but oppose the Consistent Life Ethic of the Church, you are not prolife.
