Iott is now in full damage control mode, so he naturally goes out to find some Jewish guy who will do the normal Mollification Kabuki of saying, “This guy believes in the Immaculate Conception of the State of Israel and its preservation from all sin both original and actual, so he’s a true blue conservative and you should just overlook his phenomenally bad judgment.” In short, we are back to “If the candidate makes the right-sounding noises, then he should be above question.” Standard issue political gamesmanship.
Only here’s the thing: the guy Iott got to establish his bona fides as a good solid Thing That Used to Be Conservative family values guy is one Richard Gabai, a Hollywood actor, writer, and producer known (I am not making this up) for titles such as Assault of the Party Nerds 2: The Heavy Petting Detective, Virgin High (which naturally takes place at a Catholic girls’ school and was followed by Hot Under the Collar, in which a man dresses as a nun to save his girlfriend from a convent). In short, a “practicing Jew” and soft p*rn maker in much the same way that Jenna Jameson is a “devout Catholic”. Well then. That certainly seals the family values vote! I shut my mouth and repent in sack cloth and ashes.
Yes, the moral here is clearly: “Question a Tea Party darling and you are a heretic and traitor. There’s no way you don’t want conservatives to stupidly circle the wagons around losers and look like fools or anything. You’re just a secret Leftist.” Meanwhile, over at the Register blog we have a reader who is seriously championing the heroism of Josef Freakin’ Mengele almost without challenge from other readers (because my criticism of Iott is the *real* danger).
I’ll retire to Bedlam.
