“Right side of History” rhetoric is basically just a way of shouting down one’s opponents by declaring that the very issue in dispute has already been settled in one’s favor in The Future[TM]. The future is not what it used to be.
It reminds me of Chesterton’s remark that the very people who laugh at the medieval notion of trial by fire or of deciding matters in law by single combat are serenely confident that every war in history was always won by the right side.
