Somebody sends along a link to some Dominican Spirituality Center in Grand Rapids. As you can see, it’s a mix of Dominican stuff, with somebody at the Center offering training in Reiki, which looks to be some sort of Asian method of healing massage or something. My reader is worried about this, since she takes it for New Age spirituality. It may well be (the Midwest Province of the Dominicans are the people who gave you Matthew Fox). However, before... In response to this, he writes this: Mark: There’s a simple way to humanize your written disagreements. First, baseline your current behavior by constructing a least squares error response function, modeling the factors as trinary inputs. In subsequent disputes, make a note of the factors’ values and, if your predicted behavior is too dehumanized, adjust the factors (in order from most to least significant) until the modeled behavior is appropriate. The petition invokes canon law in support of some of its propositions. I know nothing about the organization behind the petition, but I feel confident in commenting on... Read more
But… TIME says we don’t have to even bother with this, even though Obama said it was his number one priority! My hope (so far borne out) is that Obama is just another pandering politician who made an empty promise. But trusting that this is so on the word of TIME magazine is a more than braindead thing to do. I think the USCCB made the right call here in organizing opposition. Read more
…(which is, by the way, a *very* cool name that makes me think of grand tales of adventure with Confederacy generals or Yukon trappers) writes: I wanted to bring to your attention a project that my friend Joe McClane and I have released this weekend. The website is called Convert Obama, with the intention being that the church rally around the Lenten call to fasting and prayer, and offer those sacrifices up for the conversion of our new President, and...
