From an actual and utterly typical conversation between a Whole Life Catholic and a a couple of people right wing “prolife” Catholics: WLC: New Trump administration rules stand to block the public from knowing anything about the treatment of migrant children in detention facilities. They don’t want you to know what they’re doing to children. ZTC#1: Where are the 60million children aborted in the US?????????? The use of the unborn as human shields for their sadistic cruelty to children at... Read more

I have many readers about whom I know nothing except their names, and I sometimes like to fantasize personal narratives for them based only on that one fact. Megan Marie Grefenstette is a fave of mine. I choose to believe she is the Fourth Baronness of Alpenheim, dissolute expatriate Austrian Royal. FrNic Ventura, on the other hand, cruises Route 66 in his 62 Corvette with a Les Paul guitar, Ann-Margret as his faithful secretary and nothing but two fists and... Read more

I love this time of swan song summer days when autumn is not quite here but her red fingers, fresh with new paint, like a child, plays at tinging the leaves’ edges overhead. I love the silver-pearled webs appearing here and there and the bare hint of cool breath of dawn giving up the ghost to cheering sunshine’s last glad hug. It’s a sweet, good death. I love the apples, green and big, bowing their branches under weight of fruitfulness.... Read more

Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah! “What to me is the multitude of your thoughts and prayers? says the LORD; I have had enough of coffee cup controversies and Precious Feet pins; I do not delight in your phony prayer rallies for America, or in special seed donations, or in magical prayer cloths. “When you come to appear before me, who requires of you... Read more

When the subject is Confederate statuary, the Christianist goes all drippy and sobby over the loss of our precious, precious heritage.  When people march under the banner of the swastika to defend that heritage, we are instructed that we need to make careful distinctions between the neo-Nazis and the “very fine people” who are merely there because they Care About History.  Admittedly, they don’t care about the part of history that reminds us that the statues were put there in... Read more

A reader writes: 6.5-month-old Isaac is going in for surgery tomorrow or very shortly thereafter (pending some preparatory information-gathering procedures). This is the second of three major heart procedures that doctors believe to be necessary for his longer-term stability (the first was performed the day he was born). This is mixed news: on the one hand, it is amazing that he’s grown strong enough to qualify for the surgery at all (back in May, it was thought to be all... Read more

There are certain catch-phrases that wind up getting overused and become meaningless insults.  “Politically correct” is one of them.  When denunciation of a mob of goons marching under the banner of the swastika is sneered at as “politically correct” and not simply acknowledged as the morally normal thing to say, that term has passed its sell-by date. Also popular with the Freak Show Right is the term “virtue signalling”.  So, for instance, when Patrick Coffin decided to post this filth... Read more

He is a priest unafraid to be open about his autism and who calls us to welcome other autistic folk in the Church. Do check out his videos here. In addition, a perusal of his Twitter feed reveals a perfectly orthodox priest with entirely orthodox views of normal Catholic things like the Eucharist. He notes stuff like Communism is Bad and so forth. But once, in 2017, he made the mistake (for the Christianist Catholic Freak Show) of saying that... Read more

He writes: It strikes me as rather odd that so many Catholics take the position that this teaching of the Church contradicts the Church’s previous teaching. If said Catholics could succeed in proving that, then they would rather unhelpfully have disproven Catholicism, which would be quite the own goal. Then again, I suppose they could make the case that disproving the Church’s claim that it cannot so contradict itself would not necessarily disprove Catholicism, but merely that particular claim. They... Read more
