New Feature on McNamara’s Blog

New Feature on McNamara’s Blog June 15, 2009

I usually tell people looking for this blog to google it, because the actual URL, “Irish Catholic Humanist,” is just too long to punch in. But that URL denotes a central conviction of mine in writing this blog. As one of my great loves, history is a big part of it, in fact the biggest part. But it’s not the only one. That’s why I do features on baseball, daily quotations, and snippets from Catholic comic books. They touch on my (Irish) Catholic humanist convictions at their core.

My goal in this blog has been to highlight aspects of our collective Catholic heritage that have been, if not lost, certainly obscured. So far I’ve highlighted aspects of Church History, local, national, and international, that many people might not know about. Now I’d like to add another two components to the blog: books and movies. I’m referring to books (mainly novels) with a Catholic theme, books (new or old) about Church History, and books with a Catholic reference, i.e., books that touch some aspect of the Church or another. I’d also like to do the same thing with movies.

Understand, friends, I’m not a critic. My goal is to highlight things worth your watching or reading, that maybe you haven’t heard about. If you have, great. Pass it on to someone else who doesn’t know about it. Tell people about those books and movies that you love. That, I think, is a small form of evangelization, but it’s nonetheless a way to share good news, which is one of the central job requirements for being a Catholic and a Christian.
