Real Time Discussion

Real Time Discussion

I’ve had a regular reader of the blog show interest in being able to live chat with others who are interested in the topics discussed.  Here is what he says:

Here’s how to reach others who post questions and comments to this
blog, for real time discussion:

If you already have an account on IRC (internet relay chat) connect to
the freenode.net network, and then join #mormon_therapist.

If you do NOT have an IRC account, then you can reach the channel as follows:

Point your internet browser (firefox, internet explorer, safari, et
al) to http://webchat.freenode.net/ This will open a page where you
will then enter the following:

Nickname (enter whatever nickname you wish to use; if you want to
remain anonymous, pick any name, or use real name, whatever suits you)
Channel (here you want to enter “#mormon_therapist”  ; yes, you need
to include the # sign at the start but do not include the ” quote
symbols)
Captcha Word (enter the word as it appears in the box above; this
helps prevent bots and other pests from flooding the channel)

After entering this information, you will be logged on and can then
chat, in real time with other users, others who read Natasha’s blog
who want to talk about ideas she presents. The reason for this chat
forum or conference or channel is that it is REAL TIME, i.e., you
don’t have to wait to post your comments and then see what others say
about them, but you will get immediate feedback. It’s like email
versus a telephone call. One, you toss your idea out there, and wait,
while the other gets you immediate feedback in a two-way conversation.
In this case it can be several people all sharing ideas in one forum.
