determine the pace to determine the peace

determine the pace to determine the peace October 18, 2011

I hear from pastors all the time about how they feel trapped on the treadmill of ministry. I know. Been there.

The problem with being on the treadmill is that once you’re on it there’s no safe way to stop. If you stop you’re going to get crushed or dumped. You can try to slow it down but the g-force and the efforts of others outweigh your measly efforts.

I’ve been a pastor in small churches and larges churches. It’s all the same. You have to say no right from the beginning. Or if you say, “I want to stop doing this now!” you have to prepare yourself for a radical disruption in your life that will take some getting used to.

My life is so much more peaceful since I left the ministry. I’m still very involved with people. In many ways I’m still a pastor. But I determine the pace. As a result I’ve determined the peace.
