Bohemian Magick by Veronica Varlow: A Review

To start, Bohemian Magick by Veronica Varlow is aesthetically gorgeous. My Libra moon is gushing over how beautiful this book is; I love looking at it, just the design alone is inspiring. I am the kind of person who judges a book by its cover as well as its contents, and Bohemian Magick delivers on every level.

Bohemian Magick is Personal

One of my favorite things about Bohemian Magick is how deeply personal it is. This aspect alone sets it apart from other occult books. Veronica is very personal and honest in her writing. The personal photos, family photos and accompanying stories, made me feel as if I were reading a letter from a dear friend who trusts me with the privilege of knowing her.

Not only does Veronica share her family’s magickal tradition, called Spectaculous, with us, she also encourages her readers to engage wholly in our own magick. Self-love, self-empowerment, and inclusivity are some of the main themes of the Spectaculous tradition. It’s clear that Veronica wants her readers to love themselves, and to embrace their own power as the foundation of their magickal practice.  She wants her readers to embrace their true selves and live their lives out loud, without fear. A message like that can’t be given enough. 

Bohemian Magick is Accessible

Veronica Varlow doesn’t stop with simply giving us a message of self-love and self-empowerment, though. She gives her readers the tools to do follow through and build on it. Within Bohemian Magick there is inspiration, instruction, beauty, creativity, love. There are tons of beautiful, useful spells and inspiring prose, in addition to the gorgeous photography. If desired, the reader can initiate themselves into the tradition of Spectaculous. Every witch walks their own path, and all Veronica Varlow asks is that credit is given where it is due when using the work from the personal tradition she shares with her readers. 

No matter where you are on your path, Bohemian Magick is accessible and edifying.  This book is truly a spell of its own.
