Don’t Hit the Girl

Many sleepless nights she and her sisters cried

As their mommy and daddy would fight
Shouting words of shame
Playing the adult blame game

And as she grew
Her father began to curse her too
With his harsh words
From his spiteful world

Don’t hit the girl
Don’t hit the girl
With your words of pain
And your tongue of flame
Don’t hit the girl

And now that’s she’s grown
When she’s all alone
His voice becomes her own
And she beats herself to the bone

Don’t hit the girl
Don’t hit the girl
With your words of pain
And your tongue of flame
Don’t hit the girl

Let It All Out

To let out all the pain of her past
She overflowed her emotions
And she lost her mind
Being stuck back in time
Maybe maybe maybe
Taking all her pills would ease her pain
No love wouldn’t let her go
He wouldn’t let her go
So she checked herself in
Wanting healing to begin
And all they could do was say
We can’t take away your pain …
You have to let it go
You have to let it go
We’ll keep you from hurting yourself
But if you want to keep on going
Let it go
When she walked free again
She still wasn’t sure how to begin
She tried to let herself know
That the bad times were bad
And the present can be better
If she lets it go
If she lets it go
She has to love herself
Love herself
Before she can let it go
