Bad Argument #2: The band is too loud. Sometimes the band is too loud. I’ve heard (and walked out on) a few that could threaten the listener’s hearing. But usually, this point sounds more like a curmudgeonly gripe against youthful folly and a certain popular genre (e.g. “Those dumb kids and their stupid rock music!). It’s just not an effective argument. Also, ever heard a pipe organ? They are also loud, sometimes very, very loud, but played sensitively, even a loud organ can effectively support and sustain congregational singing, something a typical “worship band” does not do well.

Reframing this discussion:
The instruments commonly found in a band don’t support and sustain congregational singing as well as the organ (or other instrumental combinations).
-Does the accompaniment draw the congregation into participation, or does it overwhelm it?
-Are the lead singers modeling normal, healthy vocal production?
-Is the decibel level dangerous?
