SDfAoWOP: the Commander

SDfAoWOP: the Commander

I am now truly going out of order, wandering around in the maze of scripture, hoping to find my way. I will very definitly have to go back and edit them and order them into some kind of logical space. Someday I hope to put them all under some kind of tab where they all sit together, judging my lack of faith. Until then, here is the next day.

Day Twenty-Six

1 Samuel 22:2

And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.

David is on the run, gathering strength and courage to wait for what The Lord has promised, which is to be king. At this moment he has long to wait and finds refuge in the wilderness, not alone, but gathering to him those who have need. That should be everyone but, then as now, it is only those who for whom that need is known. The distressed, the indebted, the bitter in soul. The one who has come to the end, who looks around at the measure of his days and doesn't see a way out, who carries a burden too great to bear. The one who has seen trouble gathering itself together into a great heap that cannot be moved. Then the poison of bitterness, that nothing will ever change and good is gone forever, entangles and ensnares the heart.

But Suddenly hope is found in the wilderness, in the stronghold. All these come to David and he is commander over them, leading them out of the place of no hope.

Much later, another man will walk through the smooth and rough places of that same land, and everyone will gather to him, for healing. Everyone blind and lame and sick. But he will not be a commander over them. They will scatter, unwilling to see the deepest need, to bow to the one who can command and save.

Are you bitter in soul? Does your great debt tower over you? Gather in the stronghold and let The Lord be your commander.
