The Trump administration officially supports trophy hunting, and is repealing an Obama era ban on the import of African elephant trophies.

In a reprehensible move the Trump administration endorses trophy hunting and will reverse an Obama era policy prohibiting “bringing to the United States the heads of elephants killed in two African countries.”

Newsweek reports:

Elephant and lion trophies can be imported from Africa again, in a reversal of an Obama-era policy that prohibited the importation of endangered animals.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday that it will allow trophy hunters to bring back legally hunted wildlife, removing restrictions on permits that were put in place to discourage the hunting and poaching of animals that are on the threatened species list.

The Hill reports “the reversal is part of a wide-ranging effort by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke” to promote hunting.

To be clear, this is not just about hunting, this is about the despicable practice of trophy hunting, where cowardly and morally deficient trophy hunters travel to Africa to engage in canned hunts and collect “trophies” such as elephants, warthogs, zebras, lions, and even giraffes, with entire tour companies dedicated to the so-called “sport.”
The decision to reverse the Obama era ban on the importation of “trophies” was celebrated by some hunting and gun rights groups, including the National Rifle Association, America’s premier terrorist organization.

However, as one might expect, animal rights groups and other compassionate and fair mined individuals were appalled by the morally reprehensible decision concerning African elephant trophies.

Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States, condemned the Trump administration’s barbaric new policy noting:

Let’s be clear: elephants are on the list of threatened species; the global community has rallied to stem the ivory trade; and now, the U.S. government is giving American trophy hunters the green light to kill them.

Pacelle also notes that the new policy ignores “the copious science that trophy hunting undermines the conservation of threatened and endangered species.”

Entertainer and animal rights supporter Ricky Gervais and others registered their complaint with the new policy via Twitter:

The fact that Trump has lifted President Obama’s ban on elephant trophies being imported into the country is a devastating blow to the survival of these beautiful animals. It’s savage and pointless. It breaks my heart.

Those who defend the immoral act of trophy hunting claim that it is a necessary evil, and that the trophy hunters, by paying large fees to guides and governments for the perverse pleasure of killing an animal for sport, are somehow helping conservation efforts. This is false.

Research shows that it is a myth that trophy hunting supports wildlife conservation. The fact is, trophy hunting does not help conservation efforts, although those who defend the cowardly sport often make claims to the contrary.

Make no mistake, these canned hunts are for immoral cowards with too much money and too little self-esteem. There is nothing brave or noble about killing exotic animals for sport. In fact, there is no “sport” in trophy hunting. Such activity is a perverse pursuit, and has no place in a civilized society.

And it is no accident that two of the immoral cowards who take perverse pleasure in killing  exotic animals for fun and trophies happen to be the sons of President Donald Trump.

With the help of the NRA, America’s premier terrorist organization, a white man kills over 50 and wounds over 500 in Las Vegas shooting.

Another day, another senseless gun tragedy in America, brought to you by the National Rifle Association, America’s premier terrorist organization.

On Sunday, Stephen Paddock, 64, committed the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history. Paddock fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, killing over 50 and wounding over 500 before taking his own life.

At least 10 rifles were found in Paddock’s room, because in America, the NRA make sure every domestic terrorist has easy access to firearms.

In fact, the NRA is a deplorable terrorist organization that hides behind the second amendment and the interests of a small but vocal and threatening minority, while putting the vast majority of decent Americans in harm’s way.

Death and Taxes reports:

1.4 million Americans have died from gunfire since 1968, more than in all of the country’s wars through history combined. No other group — not ISIS, not Al Qaeda, not foreign governments — has been more successful at killing Americans than the NRA.

And:

It is impossible to determine the exact number of deaths that can be directly attributed to the NRA’s efforts, because for 20 years, it has successfully fought to prevent any public health studies at the federal level into gun violence.

Market Watch reports that contrary to public opinion, the NRA does not speak for all gun owners, and only a small, deranged minority of gun owners are actually NRA members:

Only a tiny percentage of Americans are members of the NRA. The association’s annual membership fee is $40. Last year its membership dues came to $160 million. So that’s 4 million members. Out of an estimated 55 million gun owners.

Yet despite the relatively small numbers, the NRA terrorizes politicians and civilians alike. Commenting on the Las Vegas shooting via Twitter, 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton declared that it is time for politicians to stand up to the terrorist organization known as the NRA:

Clinton is right. As a nation we live with and tolerate a culture of gun violence. All the while any proposal to enact sensible reform to curb gun violence is squashed by the the NRA as they intimidate and bully politicians, while spreading deception and misinformation to the general public. They are the equivalent of the 20th century tobacco lobby, merchants of death, claiming their product is safe while countless Americans die.

The logic of guns in America is a curious and disturbing example of a collective conceptual confusion, fueled by irrational fears and misinformation distributed by the domestic terrorist organization known as the NRA.

The country is made numb by the horrors involving guns that happen day after day, year after year, while politicians are held hostage by the NRA.

Also commenting on the Las Vegas shooting, comedian Michael Ian Black notes:

And this tweet via leading scientist and atheist Richard Dawkins:

Bottom line: The NRA is America’s premier terrorist organization, and they need to be stopped.

Call to arms: The NRA, America’s premier terrorist organization, makes an appeal to white supremacists while advocating for violence against left wing protesters.

In a disturbing new recruiting video, National Rifle Association (NRA) spokesperson and conservative darling Dana Loesch issues a thinly veiled call for armed violence against left wing protesters.

Making an obvious appeal to white supremacists, Trump supporters, and other Christofascists, Loesch portrays “anyone who disagrees with them (or with President Trump) as potentially violent enemies of the state from which they must be prepared to defend themselves. Not fellow citizens with whom they disagree. Enemies.”

In the video, a breathless Loesch declares:

They use their media to assassinate real news. They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse “the resistance.”

All to make them march. Make them protest. Make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding — until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.

And when that happens, they’ll use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.

I’m the National Rifle Association of America. And I’m freedom’s safest place.

The video, which was published on the NRA’s Facebook page on June 12, has been viewed over 5 million times, and has been widely condemned by conservatives and liberals alike as vile and sinister propaganda.

The following are some of the reactions to the new NRA recruitment video:

As a nation we live with and tolerate a culture of gun violence. All the while any proposal to enact sensible reform to curb gun violence is squashed by the the NRA and the multitudes of ammosexuals in love with their guns.

Indeed, the NRA and the gun lobby intimidates and bullies politicians, while spreading deception and misinformation to the general public. They are the equivalent of the 20th century tobacco lobby, merchants of death, terrorists claiming their product is safe while countless Americans die.

Bottom line: A new recruiting video from the NRA is dangerous and sinister propaganda that appeals to white supremacists, Trump supporters, and other Christofascists; and suggests that violence is necessary to stop left wing protesters.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Conservative Christians are turning on Sarah Palin, accusing her of blasphemy after the Tea Party darling said “Waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists” while speaking at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention earlier this week.

The former vice presidential nominee and half-term governor of Alaska told a packed house of cheering, gun loving, conservative Americans that “If I was in charge, they would know, waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

While the NRA crowd loved Palin’s obnoxious rhetoric, not all Christian conservatives were happy about Palin “portraying Christianity as a religion of hatred and violence.”

Raw Story reports that by Tuesday, the group Faithful America had already reached its goal of 15,000 signatures on a petition condemning Palin for the remarks.

The petition reads:

For Christians, torture is not a joke or a political punchline, but a ghastly reminder of the suffering of Jesus upon the cross. By equating it with Holy Baptism — the act by which we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection — Sarah Palin is blasphemously twisting our faith into a weapon of hatred and violence. No media outlet should cover her remarks without reporting on how sincere Christians of all theological and political persuasions are appalled.

Indeed, many prominent Christian conservatives were not happy with Palin’s remarks. For example:

From Rod Dreher of the American Conservative:

OK, stop. Not only is this woman, putatively a Christian, praising torture, but she is comparing it to a holy sacrament of the Christian faith. It’s disgusting — but even more disgusting, those NRA members, many of whom are no doubt Christians, cheered wildly for her.

From Andrew Sullivan:

She (Palin) invokes torture in the context of a Christian sacrament. Not since the Nazis’ Deutsche Christen have we seen something so disgusting and blasphemous in the morphing of Christianity into its polar opposite.

Most secular Americans recognized long ago that Palin is a political monster, a prominent clown in the right wing hate machine. It is interesting to note that now some conservative Christians are coming to a similar conclusion.

As for blasphemy – blasphemy is a victimless crime, a silly charge made by those deluded by religious superstitions. Palin’s crime here is not blasphemy, Palin’s crime here is a callous and cavalier endorsement of torture.
