This story of politically correct excess speaks for itself.

Oregon is now allowing children as young as 15 to undergo sex-change surgery without parental consent. This, in a state that does not allow 15-year-olds to drive a car or smoke a cigarette.

This irresponsible action by the state of Oregon is symptomatic of the nihilistic push in our nation that is clearly running ahead of both common sense and our long-understood ideas of freedom.

Sex change surgery is just the new pre-frontal lobotomy. It is medical barbarism practiced on the mentally ill.

Now, we we’re doing it to children.

Read it and weep.

From FoxNews:

The list of things 15-year-olds are not legally allowed to do in Oregon is long: Drive, smoke, donate blood, get a tattoo — even go to a tanning bed.

But, under a first-in-the-nation policy quietly enacted in January that many parents are only now finding out about, 15-year-olds are now allowed to get a sex-change operation. Many residents are stunned to learn they can do it without parental notification — and the state will even pay for it through its Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan.

“It is trespassing on the hearts, the minds, the bodies of our children,” said Lori Porter of Parents’ Rights in Education. “They’re our children. And for a decision, a life-altering decision like that to be done unbeknownst to a parent or guardian, it’s mindboggling.”

In a statement, Oregon Health Authority spokeswoman Susan Wickstrom explained it this way: “Age of medical consent varies by state. Oregon law — which applies to both Medicaid and non-Medicaid Oregonians — states that the age of medical consent is 15.”

While 15 is the medical age of consent in the state, the decision to cover sex-change operations specifically was made by the Health Evidence Review Commission (HERC).

  1. It’s getting harder and harder for the news to shock me, but still I was utterly shocked when i heard this yesterday. I can’t think of anything more insane than this. It is truly an outrage. It stands out as an outrage amongst outrages. Unreal.

  2. And I bet the public schools in the state can’t even give the 15-year old Tylenol without written permission from the parents. But a sex-change operation? Abortion? NBD. Even parental notification isn’t needed. Sheesh.

  3. I saw this. The supporter says parents may not be supportive so kids need to be able to do it themselves. Oregon has always been libertarian/weird. I think they’ve gone off a cliff.

  4. The current obsession with transgender is fascinating. It’s like they are looking for things about which they can indulge outrage. The gay thing has peaked (at lmeast for the left), so let’s pay attention to a tinier percentage of the population. It helps that Jenner had enough money to become photogenic. Most transgenders do not.

  5. A 15 yr old cannot legally consent to sex in OR either. There have been several cases of men going to jail for working 15 yr old strippers with the girl’s cooperation but 15 yr olds are considered incapable of consent. But now a doctor can chop up a 15 yr old’s body permanently and not only not go to jail, but do it without parental consent on the tax payers dime. The insanity of progressivism is that they cannot see the insanity of their own inconsistent rationales.

Someday a child will die from an abortion, or a blood clot from the pill, or a pelvic infection from an IUD, or a transgender surgery and then I hope a parent who was not informed will win a wrongful death lawsuit and stop this insanity.

  6. The problem atop all this is that right now, America loves to applaud the transgendered. “You identify as female and you’re getting the surgery? YAY!” I wouldn’t like it, but I’d have difficulty arguing with (from a secular standpoint) a legal adult who chooses to do this. With a child, they’re young, they’re impulsive, and the heart and mind are still forming. A 15 year-old may *think* they want this without knowing the full extent of what they’re getting into, and many supporters of this will just go along with it without questioning whether a teenager has the intelligence and maturity to meaningfully choose this.

  7. Rebecca, (and others) you might want to poke at a story like this a little more, before picking it up and running with it. Try Snopes.com.

  8. The minutes of Oregon’s HERC, which I linked to in the post, state that the will of the committee was to allow gender reassignment surgery for those under 18. It also said that “suppression” of normal gender development, presumably by the administration of massive doses of hormones, was being done to Oregon’s young children at tax payer expense even before this meeting.

  9. This is a bit of old news. The law allowing children of 15 to make their own medical decisions passed in 1971, the law giving children free medical care is from 2003, adding sterilization to that happened in 2008, and adding the mutilation cure for gender dysphoria is from January 2014.

  10. The meeting minutes I refer to below are dated 2014. That seems to substantiate the claim in the New York Times article that said that this was slipped by quietly.

  11. Quietly indeed, but the same issue has been battled against by pro life activists for most of my lifetime, with negative results. 15 as the age of medical consent in a State that officially does not allow sexual consent until 18 is ridiculous. And this is not the first mutilation procedure allowed either.

  12. Not just allow. In every high school where Caucasians are a minority, a federal paid program from Planned Parenthood has come, called the Teen Outreach Program. Teenagers from poor families are paid $35 each to attend classes in contraception and a lecture on small family sizes and the benefits of sterilization. Government paid Sterilization has a long history in Oregon, we had a Eugenics board here that was not disbanded until 1986, when it came out that they were involuntarily sterilizing the institutionalized mentally ill.

  13. Rebecca check out KATU’s coverage (http://www.katu.com/news/local/Little-known-policy-change-drawing-lots-of-attention-313474411.html) because they include a little “fact sheet” from OHA (http://images.bimedia.net/documents/FAQ+-+Prioritized+List+-+Guideline+for+Gender+Dysphoria.pdf).

The claim the spokesperson made to FOX was that this would only ever cost $150,000 per year. Well in the first six months of it being the new policy, “gender treatments” have already cost the taxpayer $154,000. They said there would only be between 12-120 patients. So far there have been over 400. Just in the first six months since this coverage kicked in (for both adults and minors) in January.

They keep saying it’s to prevent suicides. But the estimate given is that it will prevent ONE suicide attempt per year. Which is very iffy, given that the studies do not show that “gender treatment” is an effective treatment for suicidal thoughts, at all, in this very volatile population.

The truth is, this is all about lobbyists, and they were going to do this whether it made medical and financial sense or not, whether the people wanted it or not. Because pleasing special interests like Basic Rights Oregon comes first to OHA. A lot of this has been pushed by a BRO-affiliated group called “trans active” which focuses on “trans” kids as young as pre-k age. They are an interesting group: https://gendertrender.wordpress.com/2015/05/12/portlands-transactive-gender-center-embroiled-in-controversy-founder-responds-by-posting-bizarre-transgender-children-conspiracy-video/

  14. Lampotatia, would you go back and check your links? A couple of them didn’t work. Thanks.

  15. This is how media works hard to change the culture. Teens are becoming more and more sexualized at younger ages and given more and more ‘consent’ rights while the rest of society still pretends that teens can’t legally consent to sex. There is a dissonance that will need to be corrected and the people who want to lower the age of consent are the ones who will be pushing the narrative on the needed ‘corrections’. I think pedophilia will gain slow but steady traction until what will be legal 20 years from now would have us out in the streets with pitchforks and torches if it occurred today. It’s the frog in the pot effect.

  16. Some religions have a special ceremony when a child turns 13,and consider them adults, so guess it is good the state waits until 15 to let a child get surgery w/out parental consent. I wonder how many will go home and have their parents take care of them while they recover, even if they didn’t tell their parents of their surgery? That is a ridiculous law! Dangerous too, for many reasons. Though I sympathize with those children who have gender identity problems, I think they should have to wait until at least 18 for any surgery!!

  17. Sex sells. There is a huge amount of money to be made in sexualizing kids, just as there was in pushing sexually permissive behaviors among adults.

  18. It’s just that the commenting software thought the parenthesis was part of the URL. Remove the extra parenthesis and the links work.

  19. I can see some logic having such an age distinction. Ordinary medical decisions can mess up your own life; decisions about having sex can mess up your own life, and bring into the world another life that is messed up from the outset.

Though that does in turn lead me to wonder why Article III didn’t set an age requirement for the federal judiciary.
