I’ve read some pretty goofy explanations as to why Trump has reversed himself on mail in voting, at least so far as Florida is concerned. Here’s my take.

I think he figured out that he’s suppressing his own vote in Florida with his anti mail in ballot rhetoric.

Here’s why:

There are a lot of old folks in Florida. They tend to vote R. They also tend to vote absentee. They probably fall into that weird cult-like bunch of voters who would believe Trump if he said the Titanic was going to sail into New York harbor at noon tomorrow. Then, when the big boat failed to show, they’d swear up and down that he never said it.

So … when he tells them that mail-in voting is rigged and unsafe, they believe him. That means they don’t ask for an absentee ballot for themselves. And that means many of them will end up not voting at all.

These are TRUMP’S voters he’s keeping away from the polls in a state that’s important to his re-election. So … he suddenly reveals his new epiphany that mail-in voting is A-OK in the great state of Florida, but still dangerous everywhere else.

Of course, his true believers will swallow this whole line without a single burble over the obvious self-refuting illogic. They’ll never ask a single question and they’ll get mad at anybody who does ask a question. If Trumpy Bear says mail in votes are safe in Florida and dangerous everywhere else, then them’s the facts. End of story.

They’ll follow him all the way down to hell if he gets a chance to lead them there. Whether or not that happens is up to the rest of us.
