Pope Francis is worried that so many young people are avoiding marriage, and rightfully so. There are many reasons for this, quite a number of them having to do with economics, while other reasons are more cultural and social.
Pope Francis’ prayer intention for June is directed specifically at this reluctance of young people to choose the home/life/community building commitment of Holy Matrimony.
Is it true, what some people say—that young people don’t want to get married, especially during these difficult times?” he asks.
“Marriage isn’t just a ‘social’ act,” he notes. “It’s a vocation that’s born from the heart, a conscious decision for the rest of one’s life that requires specific preparation.”
And the Pope urges everyone to remember that God has a dream for us, which is love. He calls the Church to teach the holiness of the vocation of marriage.
