I told you I would be back on Monday, and then I didn’t show up. I apologize.

Here’s what happened. Hubs and I attended an out-of-state soccer tournament in which one of our precious grands was playing. We stayed in a hotel that was full to the top with giddy, excited kids who ran up and down the halls and filled the elevators with their chitter-chattering fun. We ate lots of greasy, bad-for-the-heart food, and we spent time with our kids and their kids.

We even missed the misery of watching OU lose to Texas because we were watching kids kick a soccer ball around a field instead.

It was a great weekend.

But I sorta messed it up by not packing my regular shampoo and bath soaps. I’m prone to allergic reactions to all sorts of things, and the hotel bath soap turned out be one of those things. I woke up itching on Saturday night and was awake all the rest of the night. I ended up getting maybe an hour of sleep before we went to an 8 am soccer game.

I didn’t make it to bed Sunday night until around midnight, and, by that time, I was really tired. So … instead of getting up and writing a blog post, I slept until almost three in the afternoon on  Monday. I barely had time to dress and get in the car so we could pick up the grands after school and do our regular afternoon baby sitting until their mother got off work.

I’m fine now. And glad to be back home again. There’s no bed so comfortable as your own bed. There’s no place as nice as your own home. I’m like an old mama bear who likes her cozy den with her cubs snuggled up around her.

I’m back home again. And glad to be here.

I have so many things I want to talk to you about. But I’m getting a late start again today. So, I think I’ll cut to the chase and just do a straight out commentary.

We’re close to losing our democracy. All our freedoms and the future of free Americans living in a free country is hanging in the balance. The heritage we all want to pass on to our children and grandchildren will be lost forever if we don’t stand up for America against the evil that is destroying it.

It’s time we started thinking straight. It’s time we started thinking for ourselves.

One of the things we’ve been told is that “both political parties are the same.” The people who are controlling us with their propaganda use that particular lie when something the right wing has done is so egregious and undeniable that there’s no way for them to excuse it. So, they claim that it doesn’t matter because “both parties are the same” anyway and, since both parties are the same, we might as well get over the evil the right wing has done and back them no matter what.

That’s a lie, designed to get us to accept other lies.

Neither party is perfect. I’m a Democrat who has plenty of arguments with the Democrats. When I was in office, my own state party came within 50 votes of censuring me for passing a pro life bill into law. I’ve been picketed by my own party. I’ve had them run primary opponents against me, etc, etc. I have real disagreements with my party over a number of issues.

That’s normal. It’s healthy. I only know of one perfect person, and that’s Jesus Christ, and He is God. Nobody else is perfect, including me.

Neither party is perfect.

But they are not the same.

My proof that they are not the same is simple.

Look at what they fight for.

Republicans have shut the government down repeatedly through the years. Every single time they shut the government down, they did it to get cuts in programs that help you and me in order to give tax cuts to billionaires. Every. Single. Time.

That’s what they fight for.

Democrats have always refused to do anything that would shut the government down, primarily because Democrats, as a group, tend to put good governance first. Democrats have consistently and repeatedly compromised and backed down and backed off in the face of Republican threats and bullying so they could keep the government up and running.

But right now, they’re dug in. Why?

What is it that Democrats care so much about that they are wiling to dig in and fight for it, no matter what?

Democrats are fighting to keep Republicans from cutting the subsidy for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) because without that subsidy the health insurance premiums for many Americans will go up an average of $800/month. That would mean that millions of Americans could no longer afford health insurance.

They are fighting to stop cuts to Medicaid, which would leave about 15 million Americans without any health care at all.

They are fighting to stop the closure of many of America’s rural hospitals.

All of this would mean that literally millions of Americans — that’s millions of Americans, with an M folks — would lose access to our health care system, and tens of thousands of them they would die or become permanently disabled because of it.

That’s what Democrats are fighting for. They’re fighting for our lives.

Republicans, on the other hand, are fighting to triple Americans’ health insurance bills, kick people off Medicaid and close down rural hospitals. Why? So they can give the money to America’s 800 billionaires.

They are fighting to kick millions of Americans off health insurance and many millions more off Medicaid, and close rural hospitals — in short, they are fighting to kill their own constituents — so that Jeff, Mark and Elon can buy another private island or an extra yacht.

The two political parties are not the same. If you doubt that, just look at one thing.

Look at what each one of them is willing to lay it on the line and fight for.
