Trump has been the projected winner of the Republican presidential nomination since before he announced his candidacy. Talking heads in print news, network news, cable news, podcasts and the blogosphere, are sharply divided on most things. But on this they are unanimous: Polling shows that Trump will be the Republican Party’s nominee in 2024. They are so sure Trump will win that they are saying that Trump’s opponents are not running for the nomination, that they are actually auditioning to... Read more

Today, the House held a bi-partisan hearing on UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena), or, as we little folk like to call them UFOs. Several reputable military personnel testified under oath to events they said they personally had witnessed.  Meanwhile, over in the Senate, Chuck Schumer has come up with legislation to declassify documents on the subject. The cherry on top is that a couple of years ago former President Obama allowed as how “there is something ‘very interesting’ about UFOs,” that... Read more

Woe to you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either. Jesus Christ   I know many people who have either left the Church or are hanging on to it while suffering the extremes of alienation and isolation inside it, all because they are not deluded into following the false and idolatrous political gospel that... Read more

Are the United States Catholic bishops declaring war on Pope Francis?  I don’t know anything about the internal politics of the American bishops. I am confused about the meaning of this week’s winner in the bishop big guy election. Based on the headlines, the pointy-hat crowd chose an anti-Pope Francis right winger to be their new leader.  I read the headline, and then I read it again. I’ve been thinking of it off and on since. Is that true? Is... Read more

I haven’t heard any discussion of one of the more obvious points concerning this year’s election results. So, I’ll take it up. That point is simple. A large number of voters were missing at the polls this year because they died during the COVID pandemic. Around 3/4 of a million of those who died were in the precise age groups that vote most heavily for the Republican Party. Not only that, but studies have shown that registered Republicans died from... Read more

I’ve been watching talking heads “explain” the election results for days now.  I get the impression that Michael Moore and I were the only living Americans who knew that the election was going to be close. I know that’s not true, but in the alternative universe of made-up “news,” it’s the pretend reality. So, as one the two unofficial only living Americans who knew the election was going to be close, I suppose I should share how I came to... Read more

I chose St Thomas More for my name saint.  Since I spent much of my adult life as an elected official, and Thomas More is the patron of saint of elected officials, that might seem obvious. Of course, Thomas More’s political career far exceeded anything I ever accomplished.  He was an internationally recognized thinker, who became, for a short while, the Chancellor of England.  He was also a martyr who gave his life rather than take an oath saying that... Read more

My Patheos colleague, Fr Matthew Schneider wrote a post about the anti-vax statements being made by his crazy brother priest, Fr Chad Ripperger. I’d never heard of Fr Ripperger before I read this article. I Googled, and he’s evidently an exorcist who writes books and posts YouTubes and who has also decided to bless Denver with a new community of his own making for other “traditionalist” exorcists. Along with casting out demons and such, Fr Ripperger has decided to start... Read more

The Parkland school shooter, who murdered 17 people and maimed many others, dodged the death penalty today. I don’t normally watch trials, but I watched parts of this one. We’ve got to stop these mass shootings. I watched mainly to see if there was anything we could have done to stop this shooting and others like it in the future.  As I watched it, I concluded that the only reason the jury might not give the shooter the death penalty... Read more

Do not go gentle into that good night Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage,... Read more
