What this project is: This Ramadan, rekindle your spirituality and relationship with God by reading the Quran in a language you understand! To facilitate those who find reading the Quran for the first time daunting, we, at Quranalyze It, will be posting short chapter summaries to get you acquainted with the basic theme and content of a particular chapter. It is important to note, however, that these summaries are no substitute to reading the Quran, and should be used as... Read more

Ramadan is my favorite time of the year. No, not because of fasting (that is rather uncomfortable!), but because of the spiritual highs I experience from re-reading and reflecting on the Quran in this month. For me, Ramadan is a time of solitude and introspection. A time to exclusively dedicate all my energies in improving my relationship and connection with God. Wouldn’t it be  revolutionary if all of us Muslims could dedicate this month in reforming ourselves and then staying... Read more

In my last post, I examined a meme that attempted to show the Qur’an contains hate-speech towards nonbelievers. I argued that when we view the passages in the meme in textual and historical context, the Qur’an is not even close to hate-speech to non-Muslims. Additionally, I highlighted the perils of proof-texting by using simplistic and naive memes. In this post, I tackle a similar meme. This one takes a few passages from the Qur’an and titles itself “ISIS & Radical... Read more

Guest Post by Taha Najeeb Khan   Sam Harris is butting heads again – this time with Noam Chomsky. He recently blogged an email exchange he had with the great man himself; an exchange which, as with most things with Harris, quickly degenerated into crassness. That this torture-advocating anti-theist would, of his own accord, publicize such classless piffle over the web, expecting quite possibly a tsunami of approval from his fans, betrays a curious audacity one may only encounter in... Read more

Guest Post by Craig Considine Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think I would become a scholar focusing on Islam and Christian-Muslim relations. Growing up, my passion was playing basketball and following the Boston Celtics. I never had any Muslim friends. In fact, I did not even know a single follower of Islam until my college years. If you had asked me “What is a Muslim?” when I was 16 years old, I would not be able to answer... Read more

Dear Extremist Muslims, What happened in Texas a few days back was not only an attack on American values, it was also an attack on Islamic values. You see, they do not have to be mutually exclusive. Freedom of speech is, after all, a central tenet of the Quran. “Be patient over what they say”, the Quran says, “and depart from them graciously.” (Quran, 73:10) Or, “Whenever they (believers) hear vain talk of ridicule, they withdraw from it decently and... Read more

With Islam being in the news for all the wrong reasons, an anti-Muslim sentiment seems to be growing day by day in the West. This is a bothersome trend, one that inhibits social harmony and mutual respect in diverse societies. Unfortunately, some Muslims living in the West have to put up with discrimination and bigotry due to the actions of a few extremists. When will people stop generalizing? In any case, today I would like to bring your attention to a... Read more
