On Passover we eat matzah to remember suffering. Then, almost immediately, we flip the script and turn Passover into a story of universal liberation, freedom, and celebration. It’s a nice concept, but not at all what Exodus declares. Exodus is not the story of humanity being set free. It was about freeing a specific people so they could bring G-d’s law to the world. Matzah: The Bread of Survival However, in order to do that, they had to survive the... Read more

We often assume that the patriarchy ruled Israel. However, while the patriarchs received the promise, it was the matriarchs who saw the future and moved the story forward. They ensured the divine plan unfolded as it should. The matriarchs saw Israel’s future and took action to bring about divine order and fulfill the prophecies.  It was the women who built Israel. The matriarchs remind us that faith is fruitless without action. Sarah Built Israel When Abraham wavered about turning out... Read more

On Purim we celebrate Esther taking a stand for her people and their right to exist. However, many Jewish people today are fighting against the right of the Jewish people to exist and have their own land, so this Purim take off the mask of political correctness. We cannot continue to put on a mask and be politically correct while Haman is at the door. We must begin to think about what is said in Torah on immigration and borders.... Read more

Like most of the world, since 2020 I have spent a lot of time wondering what is wrong with our world, and I found the answer in The Torah: Justice. G-d’s laws did not teach us to run a world based on political correctness, diplomacy, and anarchy. Instead, G-d told us in Amos 5:24 to let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever flowing stream. The Torah teaches righteousness, justice, and law, but we have chosen compromise.... Read more

The Epstein Files have taken over our news and our social media feeds as victims still await justice.  Once upon a time, I too was a victim of a pedophile, awaiting justice that never came. One question plagued me. With all G-d had to say about sexual relations, how was the Torah silent on such an important issue? That question plagued me, despite how much I loved G-d, till well into my adult life. I’m sure the victims now have... Read more

I have wanted to start a review section of Jewish literature and art for some time. While the author I am showcasing today is not Jewish, her poem moved me to think about Judaism and its deep ties to our ancestors.  A.S. Sonder  wrote: “I see in myself my ancestors, my blood’s memories: Barefoot, fingers in the clay, bathing in the pale moonlight, of a cool autumn night.” The line that moved me the most was “my ancestors, my blood’s... Read more

When the Supreme Court, also known as SCOTUS, failed to uphold Roe vs Wade, they made a mockery of our Constitution. They did this by violating religious freedom. SCOTUS violated the religious freedom of Jewish women in our nation.  Under Jewish Law, women are entitled to an abortion as part of their faith. Judaism on Abortion: How SCOTUS Violated Religious Freedom The Jewish faith believes in preserving the mother’s life over the fetus’. So, if the mother’s life is in... Read more

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Exodus 20:8 is a verse of The Torah that Jews take very seriously. We commit to doing no work on the sabbath, because G-d rested on the sabbath and commanded us to do the same. Truly, doing this lengthens our days. However, I have been wondering if we do not miss the more important message. What lies beyond The Sabbath? Is what we do on the other 6 days... Read more

Society, particularly religious society, seems to have a hard time using a Trans person’s new name. However, is there Biblical support for this prejudice? What does The Bible say about using a person’s dead name? It is tempting to think that The Bible has nothing to say about this issue. We often think that transsexuality is a new-age phenomenon. Therefore, we jump to the conclusion that The Bible has nothing to say about the issues that affect the Trans community.... Read more

G-d, Where is the proof? For years people have believed that Science and Religion are at odds. Non-believers often ask, G-d, Where is the proof? Yet, the more I learn about Religion and Science, the more convinced I become that Science is the proof of Religion. The two are not at odds. Rather, one points to the other. Now, a scientist has claimed they have the proof non-believers have been seeking. G-d Where is the Proof? A Simulated Universe Melvin... Read more
