The film, set for theatrical release on March 13, 2026, stars Bargatze as Nate Wilcox, a lifelong breadwinner who becomes a stay-at-home dad after his wife Katie — played by Mandy Moore — scores a major deal on “Shark Tank,” forcing her into an extended business trip.

With three young daughters and minimal experience in household duties, Wilcox quickly learns that managing the home is his toughest challenge yet.

Bargatze, known for his clean, relatable humor and record-breaking comedy tours, co-wrote the script with Dan Lagana and described the project as a “heartwarming” throwback to classic family comedies. In an interview with Fox Digital, the comedian explained how his upbringing influenced his approach to comedy:

“It’s how I grew up,” he said. “I grew up that way. I come from a Christian family and Southern Christian, so I wasn’t allowed to watch anything, which I talk about in the special. And so growing up and only watching clean comedians, it was just how I was going to be. And it would feel forced if I was not.”

Directed by Eric Appel (“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”), “The Breadwinner” also features Kumail Nanjiani, Will Forte, Colin Jost, Zach Cherry, Kate Berlant and others. It is produced by Jeremy Latcham, Bargatze and Lagana.
