I had no intention of writing about Miley Cyrus today, even though there are a lot of posts, comments, news reports and blogs going around about her lewd performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. I didn’t watch so I figured I’d sit back and let everyone who did watch say it better. I agree with those who believe it was in line with the awards show and we shouldn’t be too surprised. It’s all shock value anyway.
To me, this is a little different and I think this particular picture brings it home. I was a little sad when I came across it.
Miley is a girl who went from preschool idol to whatever-she-is-now in just a few years. I remember in Miley’s earlier heyday seeing a friends’ daughter, around the same age as my daughter is now, putting on the Hannah Montana wig and singing into a microphone. The little girl in this photo is probably just now nearing or entering her teens. Maybe she didn’t follow Miley and could care less what she does now (fingers crossed). Or maybe she’s learning what it takes to be noticed these days.
