Nearly 2 million people have seen the musical retelling of the story of Moses in person at the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Branson, Missouri, but on Sept. 13 and 15, 2018, the story will soon be hitting the big screen. Following a successful Fathom event presentation of Jonah: On Stage last year, the company is presenting another one of the theater’s most successful productions, filming in front of an audience.

“The burning bush, the plagues, the parting of the Red Sea and the Ten Commandments—the story of MOSES is massive,” Executive Producer Josh Enck said. “But at its heart, this is an intimate story of the man who climbed a mountain to meet God.”
Premiering as a Fathom event, Moses will be accompanied by a behind-the-scenes look at The Sight and Sound Theater and details about what goes into making each show. The theatrical company, which began more than 40 years ago in rural Pennsylvania, is known for massive sets, state-of-the-art technology, live animals, and Broadway-style biblical musicals. The family-owned business employs 675 staff members who write, produce, design, and build the shows and draw nearly 1.5 million audience members from around the world each year.
“This high-quality production of Moses will be a thrilling experience for attendees of all ages,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt said. “We are excited to bring another Sight & Sound event to movie theaters that displays the unique multi-dimensional detail put into their titles.”
Earlier this year, I attended the musical Jesus in Lancaster and to say it was impressive would be an understatement. I was not only inspired by the story but blown away by the commitment from so many people working together under that common goal. That show debuted the theater’s new 113-feet wide LED screen, which took the experience to a new level. The creative team wisely used it as a moving background, adding just enough to set each scene apart.
