After writing Sherlock Holmes stories, Arthur Conan Doyle got tired of the detective and wanted to become a religious writer, so he killed off Holmes in a story. He got so much hate mail that he changed his mind and resurrected Holmes, and spent the rest of his career writing mediocre Sherlock Holmes stories.
Thanks for posting this. I knew some of them, but not others.
And then there are the non-famous writers such as myself–been a backpacking salesman and assistant manager, briefly a cowboy, high school literature teacher, driver for Hertz, 7-11 night clerk, car chrome salesman, etc.
