That Time I Crashed a Bachelor Viewing Party and It Broke My Heart: My “Micaela’s Army” Story

That Time I Crashed a Bachelor Viewing Party and It Broke My Heart: My “Micaela’s Army” Story April 16, 2015

Ruthie asked me if I wouldn’t mind making a surprise appearance one Monday night to surprise the girls who were getting ready for their weekly Bachelor watching party. I of course was more than happy to agree. So I drove over one night and walked into a house full of unsuspecting girls who absolutely freaked out when they noticed me walk through the door. It was such an honor for me to bring a level of excitement and joy to a group of loving and caring girls who missed their good friend so dearly. But during my visit, I had the chance to sit down and talk with Micaela’s mom Sharon for a while. I was struck by how much joy she possessed even after suffering the loss of her beautiful daughter. This woman inspired me with her faithfulness and positive outlook. Of course losing Micaela broke Sharon’s heart but she had an understanding that they would be united once again in Heaven. Furthermore, I came to understand that Sharon was not content just remembering her daughter, she wanted to make an impact in her daughter’s name.

Sharon started Micaela’s Army not long after the passing of Micaela. Micaela’s Army aims to support safer more effective treatment options for childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancers; to slow the rate of growth and development of these cancers; to ultimately find a cure for the cancers that affect this age group. You see, pediatric cancer is severely underfunded. Pediatric cancer research only receives 6% of all cancer research donations. There are children all over the world battling an ugly war with cancer, and Micaela’s Army is doing everything in its power to help those children win that war.

I’ve now been a part of Micaela’s Army for almost three years and I’m so proud of the work that this non-profit organization is doing. Micaela’s Army is making a lasting impact on children’s and family’s lives everywhere and I would be honored if you would join the fight along side us. Please click on the link below to make a contribution of your choosing. Whether it’s $1 or $1 million dollars, you’re making a difference.

Be strong, be blessed.
