How My Date Night Went Terribly Wrong

How My Date Night Went Terribly Wrong May 30, 2015

We’re sitting there watching this little local production titled “Always a Bridesmaid”. As most local productions usually are, it was a little cheesy but it was also pretty funny. Catherine and I were both enjoying it and laughing out loud at points. It seemed as if I had planned the perfect date night. Everything was going according to plan until somewhere around Act III. It was then when I started to feel something in my stomach that seemed a bit off. You know the feeling? I didn’t really feel sick but I also knew that something was going on in there. I thought to myself, “If I just sit still, this feeling will pass.” I was wrong. The feeling within the pit of my stomach kept getting stronger and stronger. This wasn’t going to pass. I was in the midst of a full-blown Mexican standoff with my greatest nemesis – Señor Bubble Guts.

At this point, I can feel the cold sweat on my forehead and I know I’ve got to get out of there but I really don’t want to ruin our date. I contemplate just sucking it up and sitting as still as possible until the show was over until I realized that wasn’t an option. I lean over to Catherine and whisper, “Babe, my stomach is not right.” She knows me better than anyone else and can sense that I’m serious. It was in that moment that my wife demonstrated what true love is all about. Without hesitation she says, “let’s get out of here and get you some medicine.”

So we sneak out of the play, swing by Walgreens to grab medicine and make it home without incident. So what’s my point? My point is that true love goes so far beyond just a feeling of romance or passion. Maybe that’s what is missing from The Bachelor. Maybe they should incorporate some “I feel like I’m going to poop my pants” scenarios on the show. It might just increase the success rate. Anyway, I’ll make that suggestion to the producers and get back to y’all. Until then, make sure you love your partner with the same unconditional love Catherine gives me.
