Christian Trump Supporter, Stephen Miller Just Blessed You with Another Sign, What Will You Do With It? November 13, 2019

Over the last couple years, progressive Christians have been shouting to anyone who would listen about the cruel and anti-Christian immigration policies along our border with Mexico. Tens of thousands of asylum-seeking families have been detained, separated, and have faced terrible abuse in concentration camps. This should never be associated with the United States of America. What’s been going on at our southern border is exactly the kind of thing that America has a history of putting a stop to when other  countries do it. When progressive Christians beseech our more conservative brothers and sisters to explain how they can continue to support Trump’s immigration policies, we are met with cold, measured responses–“it’s simple, they should come here legally or not at all”–“We have enough problems of our own without taking other people’s problems”–“They need to go to a country closer to them.” You’ve probably heard all or some of those if you’ve been following the story at all. Conservative Christians will call us progressives “snowflakes” because of our hearts that bleed for hurting, marginalized refugees. They will say “Obama did it, too.” They will say “America first!” They will say just about anything but admit that this policy flies in the face of what Jesus was all about. When progressives dare to claim that the immigration policies are rooted in a racist, white nationalist agenda, we are completely written off as loonies. Well, conservative Christian, a great sign has just been dropped in your lap in the form of Stephen Miller. Now, what are you going to do with it?

Stephen Miller is a far-right political activist who serves as the senior advisor for policy under President Trump. He has been called the architect of Trump’s aggressive anti-immigrant immigration policy. Miller has long been accused of being a Neo-Nazi white nationalist. This week, a smoking gun has emerged to prove those accusations when the Southern Poverty Law Center revealed that more than 900 leaked emails written by Stephen Miller show that he has a very sick and twisted view on race.

Among the facts just emerging from this still breaking story:

  • Miller is fascinated and influenced by white nationalist websites
  • He shared about a book he read with a “white genocide” theme that featured atrocities against whites performed by minorities
  • He was inspired by “xenophobic conspiracy theories and eugenics-era immigration laws that were praised and adapted by Adolph Hitler

A group called “Hatewatch” analyzed all of those 900+ emails and found that more than 80% of them focused upon subjects related to race or immigration.

“Miller’s perspective on race and immigration across the emails is repetitious. When discussing crime, which he does scores of times, Miller focuses on offenses committed by nonwhites. On immigration, he touches solely on the perspective of severely limiting or ending nonwhite immigration to the United States. Hatewatch was unable to find any examples of Miller writing sympathetically or even in neutral tones about any person who is nonwhite or foreign-born.”

-From the report release by the Southern Poverty Law Center

If that isn’t damning evidence against the Trump administration’s immigration policy–if that doesn’t confirm what all of us “snowflake” progressive Christians have been trying to say–I don’t know what to tell you. Donald Trump has based his immigration policies on the recommendations of his hand-picked, Neo-Nazi, white nationalist advisor, Stephen Miller.

Now, conservative Christian Trump supporter, there’s your sign. What are you going to do about it? You have a year to figure it out. Are you going to do the right thing, or are you going to double down on your support of the most anti-Christian president in American history?

What would Jesus do?
