Salt is one of the most versatile things in the world. Two elements, sodium and chloride, bind together to form a compound that can sustain life or snuff it out. Salt makes up nearly half of percent of our bodies. We, like all mammals, crave salt–we need to take it in to maintain our health. Without the proper amount of it, we can’t transmit nerve impulses, contract and relax our muscles, or maintain a proper balance of bodily fluids. Yet, we only need... Read more

Let me start off by assuring you that I am not a socialist–but let’s talk. Two-time NBA MVP, Steph Curry, just signed the largest contract in professional sports history–$201 million over 5 years. I feel like we just crossed a line and it reflects one of America’s biggest problems. Before I go on, let me state that I don’t begrudge professional athletes making big sums of money. I get that they are the best of the best at what they... Read more

As a history teacher, I consider one of the most crucial parts of my job to be presenting history from multiple perspectives. I want my students to get a true picture of their country’s history by developing a sense of empathy for the groups of people who haven’t always enjoyed the blessings of liberty. The “winners”, they say, get to write history. But the “losers” also have an important story to tell. Without their story, none of the problems we... Read more

Photo Credit: Conservative Daily News Conservative Christian who still supports President Trump, I am going to begin this piece with an invitation and it is a sincere one. Since you still support President Trump and claim that God has a plan for him to “make America great again,” I request that you reply in the comment section at the end of this article to defend your reasons. I do ask one thing, don’t reference Hillary Clinton in your defense of... Read more

A smart man might firmly believe he is right. A wise man understands that he could be wrong. Do you know anyone who believes they have the world figured out and are right about everything all the time? Is that a silly question? I know a lot of people who fit that description. Some of them are very intelligent, good, well-meaning people. But they hold fast to their ideologies. They plug into that segment of the media machine that validates... Read more

Public school teachers have seen it coming for many years. In my home state, Indiana, this is particularly true. There has been a veiled effort--often quite thinly veiled--to bring Christianity into public education. Read more

If you follow American politics at all, you are familiar with maps like the one above.  It is, of course, a map showing how states voted in a presidential election. The one above happens to be the most recent election and shows the states Donald Trump won in red and those won by Hillary Clinton in blue. Since the election of 2000, we have assinged red to Republicans and blue to Democrats when using these maps. Maps like these tell... Read more

On an unseasonably mild, late December Sunday afternoon, a middle aged man stands in solitude outside a tiny country church in Southern Appalachia. He isn’t by himself. His family and several other church goers are mingling and milling about in the parking lot nearby but, for a few stolen moments, he is completely alone. The service has just let out. The man had just been sitting near the back of the little sanctuary where he had sat a hundred... Read more

When I was living in Los Angeles for a short time in 1990, I worked in a Walden Books and I was given an advance copy of a book by Michael Chrichton. The book turned out to be one of the snappiest page-turners I’ve ever read–it also turned into a blockbuster movie franchise called, Jurassic Park. At this point, I can’t imagine there are many people who are unfamiliar with that story, but here is a nutshell synopsis. Scientists figured... Read more
