Dear Democrats, I am writing this letter to you out of love and concern. I am not one of you, though I have stood beside you in some elections recently, including the last one. I know you are hurting, I feel it too. It’s been over a week now. You have had time to move through some of the stages of grief. I felt the denial with you as I watched the election returns come in. I felt the anger... Read more

Every election in the United States is done by popular vote, except one. The election of the only person who represents every American, the president, is done in a very different way. Your vote, and mine, for president is tallied up with those from others in our state. The winner, in almost all cases, takes all of our state’s electoral votes. All of the 100 million plus votes cast in American presidential elections are boiled down to the votes of 538 people... Read more

We have all just witnessed history. America has elected a man unlike anyone we’ve ever seen to be our leader. Almost no one gave the man a chance to be elected. He seemed unelectable, even to many in his own party. Yet, in the end when we squinted through the fog of war, there stood a victorious Donald Trump. Much of the nation still finds itself blinded by that fog. Those standing on the high ground of victory are basking in... Read more

This one has been eating at me for a long time. I have been fighting the urge to write it for weeks. I have waited and waited and, though I’m not sure why, it’s coming out now. Here is my thesis. Politics is killing Christianity. I didn’t arrive at this conclusion haphazardly. These things have been gnawing away at me for over a year now. A growing number of Christians are feeling marginalized because they dare consider voting for someone... Read more

I have heard a lot of talk this year about protest votes. For the purpose of this article, a protest vote is the act of casting your ballot in opposition to the establishment. In this year’s election, that would mean voting for one of the two minor party candidates, Libertarian Gary Johnson or the Green Party’s Jill Stein. Or it could mean voting for political outsider, Donald Trump. Let’s face it, people are fed up with party politics as usual.... Read more

Who doesn’t love and appreciate the Constitution? Obviously, the United States Constitution is the cornerstone, the very bedrock of our nation. Although America is not a particularly old nation, our constitution is the oldest such document among major countries throughout the world. Part of the reason for that is the fact that the Constitution was well-conceived and provisions were made for it to be flexible. Though it is not easy to change the Constitution, it can be altered  and has... Read more

There Are People I Love There are people I love who see protests against the flag as displays that are shameful, disrespectful and un-American. There a people I love who see protests against the flag as outward displays of what it means to be an American. There are people I love... Read more

You certainly don’t have to follow football to know who Colin Kaepernick is. The NFL quarterback has been at the center of the leauge’s biggest controversy since Tom Brady got caught “adjusting his balls.” Kaepernick’s decision not to stand during the playing of the National Anthem before his team’s games as a way to draw attention to the cause of the Black Lives Matter movement has made him a lightning rod of controversy.  I am not here to write about... Read more

A close friend of mind sent me this meme today that he had seen on social media… The irony in that message hit both of us right between the eyes. I’ll guarantee you that almost all of the people who would support Kid Rock’s stance about flying the Confederate battle flag at his concerts are the same folks who call for people to boycott the NFL for allowing players to take a knee during the National Anthem as a form... Read more
