Friday

Hmm, what if we did this Friday music thing as a kind of quiz?

1. "patience is like bread I say / I ran out of that yesterday"

2. "You float like a feather / In a beautiful world"

3. "All your compliments and your cutting remarks / Are captured here in quotation marks"

4. "Like a Christian fearing vengeance from above / I don't pretend to know what you want / But I offer love"

5. "The light was leaving / In the west it was blue"

6. "Mannequin left! Mannequin right!"

7. "When you believe in things that you don't understand / Then you suffer"

8. "Cause a pressure drop, oh pressure / Oh yeah pressure drop a drop on you"

9. "if I look up and the sky's not there / is there any reason that I should be scared?"

10. "tramps like us and we like tramps"

Went to a wedding last Saturday just to make the groom nervous. There, of course, I heard again the reminder that marriage "signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and his church." Following the liturgy, the priest grabbed that metaphor with both hands and squeezed until it became a more precise and manageable equation. But in song No. 4 above, Mr. Finn manages to find something fresh and new in that metaphor — quite a feat after 2,000 years — with a reminder that mystery is, among other things, bewildering.

Anyway, in lieu of a link for No. 6, here's a nifty vid "lonzo625" put together for a similar song:
