OK, so Doug Wilson promotes a vision of sex that seems designed to create a victim-blaming culture of rape, and he’s an apologist for American slavery.

But, still, that doesn’t mean we should think of these Gospel Coalition types as evil, right? I mean, these are our brothers in Christ, so we’re supposed to be charitable and civil and to give them every benefit of the doubt.

So, yeah, OK, the “penetrates, conquers, colonizes” vision of sex is pretty horrifying — but Wilson insists he’s not defending rape. Well, not in this century, anyway. … I mean, he defends American slavery, and that means he defends rape, torture and kidnapping. But only, like, back in the 19th century. And only to some people.

Now, granted, that all sounds very, very bad. … It sounds appalling, actually.

Actually, if you think about it, it sounds rather like the very definition of soulless evil.

Hmmm. So maybe we should come right out and …

No, no, never mind. Banish that thought! We mustn’t forget that these are our brothers in Christ! And I have been assured that this means we must grant a magically inexhaustible supply of benefit-of-the-doubt for whatever appalling things these brothers in Christ may say.

And besides, it’s not like anybody from this Gospel Coalition is out there defending genocide, right?

There you go, see? Voila! They must be good people because, like all good people, they’re opposed to genocide, and …

… Wait … what?

… No, seriously? … Come on, now you’re just messing with —

Oh for the love of God!

Honestly, what is wrong with these people?
