Meet Mikie Da Poet.
He is a rapper from Chicago that has a song called “So Hard” and I think it has a message that is critical for young people to hear, especially right now when there’s a lot of negative noise in our culture.
This country has fallen backwards and the divide is getting larger every day. But America was built on the motto, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Right now, we are in the middle of a great fall and the bottom line is: We must unite as a country to WIN.
It’s my position that poverty and race have nothing to do with each other. We all have the same choices in life. We can either pursue our dreams and hope to be successful, or we can be bums. We can’t let ourselves get distracted by wealth, fame, skin color, or comparing our lot in life with others. People think they’re stuck when there’s always a way out. You don’t have to go down the same path to destruction your friends do. Just because they’ve given up on their dreams doesn’t mean you have to do the same.
Mikie Da Poet seems to echo these sentiments. In his song, he asks us to forget about segregation and prejudice long enough to realize how important it is to lock arms with one another and begin a brighter future.
I also like his forwardness in telling it like it is to those who may need a little extra encouragement: “use your mind… get your ass out of bed and get a job… and make our momma’s proud.”
And what other rap video ends with the artist encouraging his fans to get out there and do random acts of kindness?
That’s why I had to share.
