Why I cried when I recorded the audio version of “From Clueless to Conservative” May 13, 2016

When I got up today, I knew that I had one job to do — I had to go sit in a studio and read my book, starting from page one, for the audio version of There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative.

I was excited, as you can tell from this:

Okay, so maybe “excited” is overstating it.  I was apprehensive. You might think that sitting down with the book that it took me a while to write about my life (!), would be exciting…  but that’s only because you don’t know me.

That’s okay.  Very few friends really do.  The family that has come out and said I was “cooning” doesn’t know me, so how can more casual acquaintances?

That’s because my story isn’t an easy one to tell. I almost never have. So, as I sat down to go through it one more time, I knew the following would happen: I knew I’d be overwhelmed at how wonderful my life has turned out in spite of the many obstacles that I’ve faced.

When I got to one chapter in particular, I absolutely broke down.  Sometimes remembering is hard.

But I cried, collected myself, and kept going.  That’s actually a pretty good summary of my life — horrible setbacks, unexpected challenges, and ultimate victory — and I can’t wait to share it with you.

(Just don’t judge me if you hear the emotion in the recording — I think it just makes it more authentic!)
