There’s a new campaign that is sure to upset Democrats who oversee the crime-ridden urban landscapes in America and it’s all about getting more guns into the hands of citizens.
Maj Toure has a grand idea: “To get more people on the side of the informed gun culture.” And he’s doing it through his group, “Black Guns Matter.”
The 29-year-old artist/activist sees a potential turn around in doing something many would consider too drastic.
“I’m probably going to be crucified for even suggesting it, but we have to do something,” he said.
“The stigma, especially in an urban environment like Philly, is if you have a gun, you’re either law enforcement or the bad guy,” Toure told Bearing Arms. “What we’re trying to do is say that just because you have a gun doesn’t make you the bad guy. But while you have your firearm, which you have the right to have, you have to be a responsible, card-carrying good guy.”
Toure describes himself as a lifelong gun enthusiast and is a proud member of the NRA. As someone who grew up all around gun violence as a child in Philadelphia, Toure sees a great need to educate the young who have zero respect for firearms:
“I was 15, walking around with a gun I had no idea how to use and no real respect for. In hindsight, I wish there would have been somebody to say, ‘Hey, this is a firearm, it’s not a game.’ So when I’m seeing other people living out the same scenario, I want to be that adult teaching them properly.”
The Blaze noted another pro-gun advocate that sees a need for this in the inner-city just like Toure in Philip Smith, founder of the National African American Gun Association. He said:
“Let’s be honest, black people with guns are viewed like bogeymen. We have to change that narrative.”
And that’s exactly what Toure hopes to accomplish. He said, “I don’t think that there is a white or black gun culture. I think there’s an informed gun culture and an ignorant gun culture.”
And with the statistics showing that over the last ten years in Philly, one person has been shot every six hours, Black Guns Matter is needed more than ever.
