High School Removes ‘Huckleberry Finn’ Because Students Felt “Uncomfortable” with the Language 2015-12-14T15:05:34-07:00

This is what it’s come down to?   A suburban Philadelphia school has yanked Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn from its reading list, because the racial language has made the students feel uncomfortable.  The Philadelphia Inquirer said the principle of “Friends’ Central School decided the ‘community costs’ of reading Mark Twain’s 1885 classic outweigh the literary benefits.” Here’s more:

The book about manners, race and rebellion in pre-Civil War has inspired controversy since its release 130 years ago. In 2011, an Alabama publisher replaced the offending word with “slave.”

Even though this book has been taught for decades so that students can have a glimpse in history, it’s too much for modern, coddled students who are used to believing they have a RIGHT to not be uncomfortable. And America’s educational system takes another hit from political correctness run amok.
