Boston sets up a “hate crime hotline” after Trump’s election, but they were surprised to learn who was being abused 2017-02-01T06:59:48-07:00

Anticipating a deluge of hate crimes after the election of Donald Trump, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey set up a hotline to receive complaints. Much to her surprise, there were almost as many reports from Trump supporters as there were from Hillary Clinton fans.

The Boston Herald said:

Records for the first two weeks, released in response to a Herald request, show 21 complaints from people reporting threats or harassment from Trump supporters, while 15 people called to report incidents targeting Trump supporters, a review showed…

From Nov. 14 to Nov. 28, 941 calls were logged, according to office logs and call descriptions from its first two weeks, and 186 of them were logged as complaints.

Of those, 29 alleged threats or harassment were based on ethnicity or religion, eight were homophobic, six referenced white power or swastikas, and three were gender-based.

Several nationally reported incidents against the Make America Great Again crowd turned out to be fake, which leads to some doubt as to whether the reports are true. What has more proof of occurrence is Trump supporters being harassed for their political leanings which caused most of them to remain silent at work or out in public. That’s something State Rep. Geoff Diehl noticed, as well, when he worked as co-chairman of the state’s Trump campaign:

“I was on a regular basis being informed about people having lawn signs stolen, so I would have to go deliver new ones. People were afraid to even talk about it at work or at social settings because of the harassment they were feeling they got back.”

Though the hotline was assured to be “for everyone” the results went against all expectations, namely, that Trump supporters were going to come out fighting. Of course, we all saw who it was that lost their minds over the election.

Here are a few complaints logged by Trump supporters on the hotline:

  • A Woburn woman voting with her daughter, who was clad in a “Make America Great Again” shirt, said her girl was “verbally assaulted” and “poll workers refused to help.”
  • A Lakeville man claiming someone wrote “Racist” on his Trump signs in his yard, then took the signs days later.
  • A woman with a Trump sticker on her car reported being harassed by drivers as she commuted to work each day, and she “wanted to make sure that … it’s happening to both sides.”

Yes, there were complaints reported to the hotline from Democrats, including allegations that Hispanic children were told to pack their bags by other students, and the random crazy who phoned in their complaints about the AG’s gun control efforts, but it is also assumed that many hateful incidents weren’t reported because the hotline wasn’t promoted as bipartisan.

As Rep. Diehl stated, “[There was] little in the way of that hotline being promoted that would encourage Trump supporters to call in.”

Tolerance is a one-way street for the Left.
