SSF: “Space Cat HOB”

SSF: “Space Cat HOB” September 22, 2014

Today’s short didn’t catch my interest for its strong story sense. In fact, it feels more like a catchy snippet lifted from a much larger story than a self-contained offering. It caught my attention because it’s a fantastic adventure in world-building. And because it’s incredibly vibrant (especially in terms of its colors). And because it was made “without money” and in someone’s “spare time.” Yet another reminder that patience and talent can produce some astonishing stuff.

Space Cat HOB is an independent project done without money, on our spare time and over the course of two years.

HT’s: I can’t remember for sure, but I think I first found this on Vimeo’s “Short of the Week.”  But it was the Laughing Squid post that really grabbed my attention. Mostly because it included a link to the short’s site (which is awesome) and to some of the original concept images (which are awesome). Both make it feel even more like a snippet than the original short. Here’s hoping this short-and-action-y glimpse will serve as a calling-card for these guys, and give them the opportunity to tell their story in its entirety. Kind of like Shane Acker and 9. (And eventually, 9.)
