So, this is pretty much my life in a nutshell — with the emphasis on “nuts:”
- Start listening to the soundtrack for Terrance Malick’s The Thin Red Line.
- Think: “Wow. That sounds sort of Inception-y.”
- Head out onto the InterWebs and find this — a stinging reminder that I’m not even remotely original. (But then, neither is Hans Zimmer.)
Pretty seamless, no? Probably because they’re (essentially) the same. Which is fine with me, actually. Classical music afficionados tend to be more accepting of such “borrowing,” because it’s pretty much a way of life in the classical world. Also, can Zimmer really be stealing from himself? Is that even possible?
Also, this whole thing was a bit unsettling. It’s been quite a while since I saw Inception (once), and significantly longer since I saw The Thin Red Line (also once). But it’s also the kind of thing that happens to me all the time. My “brain” likes to do stuff on its own, apparently. Which makes me wonder…who’s running things up here, anyway?
