For those among us who have always wondered what will happen to all the cute Corgis when the Apocalypse comes along, here’s John Cody Kim’s “Steadfast Stanley” with the answer to our burning question:
Stanley the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is left behind in the outbreak of an apocalypse. All he wants to do is get back to his owner…
The dog reminded me of Madeline Sharafian’s “Omelette” short, which I posted a few months back. Sure, the setting was a bit less endearing/a bit more zombified. But it could practically have been the same dog. Perhaps not a huge shock, given their shared lineage. Both Sharafian and Kim are students at CalArts Animation.
In fact, since it’s almost Thanksgiving and I’m in a giving mood, here’s an official Vimeo channel featuring all the CalArts Animation student films from 2014.
The films featured in this channel are made by BFA1 through BFA4 students in the Character Animation Program at CalArts (School of Film/Video), in 2014. Each student makes his or her own film, individually.
I especially enjoyed “Nocturne,” which sort-of-reminded me of the “Firebird” sequence from Fantasia 2000. And “Acorn” caught my attention, as well. (And yes, it caught my attention before I realized it was the 3rd-Year Film from the previously-mentioned Sharafian, thank you very much. I do like being consistent, though.)
