SVS: “The Triplets of Belleville”

This one’s nuts. Truly. It’s just …insane. No two ways about it.

No need to take my word for it, though. It’s currently streaming on NETFLIX INSTANT, which offers the following (hopelessly inadequate) description:

When her grandson, Champion, is kidnapped while competing in the Tour de France, Madame Souza and her dog set out to save him. Along the way, they meet an eccentric female singing trio called “The Triplets of Belleville” who might be able to help.

Sylvain Chomet, the French writer/director/animator who brought this “hallucinatory amalgam of Paris and New York” into being, is probably a mad genius. His vision is bizarrely and wildly and unapologetically imaginative, surreal and ridiculous and …in fact, nearly impossible to describe. Just watch it. (The Illusionist is also incredibly imaginative, though nowhere near as insane. Not sure if that’s a bug or a feature, but if you can find it, you should give it a try.)
