Hexes, Curses, and Psychic Attacks: How to Diagnose February 12, 2018

In my previous blog post, I covered a particular circumstance in which newly elevated psychic sensitivities could lead one to believe they were under some form of psychic attack. But what if your current situation is different? How do you know if it’s possible that some sort of curse, hex, or other form of magical road blocker has been placed on you?

Here are some good methods to use in order to narrow down the possibilities of what is happening to you:

  • Do banishing and/or purification rituals. Some great examples include the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) or the Sword Banishing ritual from the Magickal Protection book by Damon Brand. There are numerous forms of purification ritual that vary from tradition to tradition and from religion to religion. You can take ritual baths, use prayer, etc. The great thing about this technique is that if the issue is something to do with you and isn’t coming from outside of you, these rituals will help clear those blocks and causes of distress The LBRP is a microcosmic ritual and is great for handling imbalances and personal issues that can lead to getting in one’s way.
  • Get a hold of Jason Miller’s Protection and Reversal Magick and familiarize yourself with the banishing and cleansing rituals in that book. It covers them extremely well, and I cannot recommend it enough.
  • If the above attempts to deal with the problem do not work, it’s time to perform divination. You can consult with a third party whose expertise you trust to do a tarot reading or some other form of divination and figure out if they can provide any intuitive insight into what the cause(s) of the problem could be.

In short, if you do banishings and cleansings and the problems go away, you know it was something with you or at the very least, easily resolved. If either or both of the above yields up results and/or there are some extremely clear signs that something is wrong, it’s time to start doing protective magic.

What are some “extremely clear signs”? Here are a few, and while one of these by itself is not necessarily an indication having most or all of these certainly is:

  1. Getting physically struck or touched by unseen forces. Sometimes they leave marks, but not always.
  2. Unusually vivid nightmares and feelings of a presence that doesn’t leave after them.
  3. Ongoing extreme fatigue that does not go away and no signs of any physical health issues.
  4. Muddied thinking, lack of clarity in thoughts.
  5. Acting out of character, not feeling like yourself, having intense feelings or thoughts out of nowhere that are out of the ordinary for you. These may be proceeded by a feeling like you are on the verge of falling asleep or staring out into space.
  6. Prolonged streak of negative events and occurrences happening in your life.

Having ruled out the practical (low iron in your diet or any other nutritional issues, physical illness, mental health including anxiety, depression etc), there are many forms of magical protection that you can do that can help you out. I will be covering some of those in my next blog post.

    C. 1984 I developed the “Bad Pizza Theory of Magical Attack”-if a pizza with bad pepperoni could create the same set of symptoms (feelings, impressions), then, absent specific evidence, there was likely no magical attack involved. As to believing in it-I don’t “believe” in discrete continuous consciousness, rocks, or the moon when I don’t see it (something also true of SCICOP editors). However, when a covener has dreams about being choked and smothered, when these symptoms appear at specific times later correlated with the specific modality and actions of a magical attack by someone involved, I accept that a magical attack is simply the most reasonable explanation.
