I’m not posting this because it’s about me… December 22, 2005

In fact, I’ve been dithering about it – wondering if I should, in fact, post something that is so overly-generous in its assessment of me. And ordinarily I would simply not post it, but it is so well done, it is SUCH a profound, insightful and beautiful piece on prayer, on what – on its most basic level – prayer is, and what it means to us human beings, that I have to link to it.

Prayer certainly isn’t for God. With or without our devotions, His power is constant.

Prayer isn’t even necessarily for the object of our prayers, be that ourselves or others. That may sound cruel, but it is true. The universe God created was for all of us, not just one of us. While we are each important in God’s eyes, we are part of a community of man, a family. There are times when individual and specific prayers appear to go unanswered, yet in truth, the community is served. The universe is a delicate balance, in which time, events in the present, past and future all factor into that balance.

We are finite creatures, with limited capacity, attempting to connect with the infinite God.
Prayer is our Jacob’s ladder, the bottom firmly planted on the ground, while at same time, at the top of that same ladder, angels and other Godly apparitions are found.

Please read Sigmund as he keeps his part of a bargain with God. It’s not really about me. It’s about the Holy Spirit.

And when you’re done, Siggy has more to say about madness and Christmas.
