Daisy Cutter says we have no press, and asks some interesting questions about how journalists operate these days. You’ll want to read it.

Roger Simon links to Victor David Hanson who wonders if we have “serious” politicians anymore:

Does running for President allow a candidate to freelance at a time of war by talking to our enemies and triangulating against the president? Why is Gov. Richardson talking to North Koreans, or Sen. Kerry trying to talk to the Iranians, or Sen. Bayh to the Syrians? Wouldn’t that be like a Tom DeLay talking to Milosevic to undermine Clinton during the Kosovo bombing? Or Trent Lott dealing with the Taliban as Clinton sent cruise missiles against them?

Perhaps in the interest of fairness, readers can cite past examples where Republican Senators and Presidential candidates went abroad, undercut Democratic foreign policy at a time of war, and made statements that were welcomed by our enemies. I know Senators of both parties talked to Saddam in 1989-90 and often nearly empathized with him, but we were not yet at war with him.

Slightly O/T, this fellow knows the way TIME magazine thinks better than they do, apparently. Lame, Lame, Lame. You look at the cover of Time magazine and think, “boy, they’re really afraid of pissing anyone off…” Although, look at what TIME had to say about the president of Iran, before they changed it. Bizzyblog has some thoughts on that.

John Fund seems to feel, as I do (note my last paragraph) – that in the end, after all the hooplah, Barack Obama will be Hillary’s veep. Of course. Some of us were saying that two years ago.

For the record people on every side of the political spectrum say dumb things.

Haven’t seen much of George W. Bush in the news, lately,
but Michael Gerson – his former speechwriter – has an an excellent piece in this week’s Newsweek on the president and on the “Republican Identity Crisis” which has pit so many “purists” against the president and other Republicans. It’s a good read. I always liked Gerson. H/T Sally.

The only person in the news
less since the last election than George W. Bush is Saddam Hussein and his killing fields.

Meanwhile, John Stephenson says the ACLU continues to define torture down.
