…a musical interlude. Russian countertenor Slava Kagan-Paley singing Cuccini’s Ave Maria. We were once driving up a mountain in Ireland, surrounded by fog, listening to a broadcast of this piece by an unknown soprano, and as it moved to its climax, we made it through the fog and into scene of such breathtaking beauty that this song has ever remained one of my faves.
