PA Called before Counting…

PA Called before Counting… November 4, 2008

Hmmmm…I actually listened to Rush at my desk today and seem to recall him saying that the networks would be calling PA for Obama before they even started counting the votes – presumably in order to set up a “theft” narrative if needed – and that is what’s just happened. Many people registering surprise that Pennsylvania has been instantly called Obama’s. Stephen Green asks just how many dead people voted in PA?. Others having some difficulty believing it: Ace, who remembers NBC calling Florida early in 2000 and says the calls are “exit polls bullshit.” Jim Geraghty wonders, if they’ve gotten exit polls from central Pennsylvania yet.

McCain: A classy concession speech 11:40 PM

President Bush: and how disgracefully he has been treated by the country he kept faith with:

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.
– Jeffery Scott Shapiro, WSJ

We will miss him when he is gone. And before he leaves, you can be sure I will tell you all the reasons why.

Bookworm has chosen to be an optimist. Well, all I can say is if PA stands, then I’m exceedingly disappointed that the press did not get the well-deserved boot in the ass they deserved, but I’ll pray for Obama in the same way that I pray for President Bush, that he be guided and granted wisdom. Don’t knock it. It is in our best interests to pray that God guides and helps our president. Even believing, as I do, that the press’ dishonesty and some fraudulent machinations played a part in his win, I have no intention of spending the next 4 to 8 years wallowing in the pit of hate, spite, malice and venom that so many on the left have been swimming in, and so I will begin tonight – right now – to do what none of the haters on the left were ever able to do for Bush: give Obama a chance. Just as soon as I am convinced that PA actually went to him. The press, however, that’s another story. 10:41 PM

“Perhaps hundreds of thousands” of absentee votes to be counted in Virginia. But the military votes will still have to wait. If this election has done nothing else it has really spurned my interest in seeing something done to make it easier for our military to have their votes counted. To me that’s the biggest travesty here. 10:14 PM

The good news: If the early call for PA stands at least I can get Obama to put gas in my car and pay my mortgage for me! :-) 9:53 PM

Explaining Ohio: A call from a friend, “let me get this straight, in Ohio people could walk up, register and vote the same day? And they could use a parkbench for an address? Well, no wonder Obama won it. He won it two weeks ago with all the extra votes!” These things happen. Speaking of Ohio SecState Brunner… 9:50 PM

McCain “Overperforming”: take it for what it’s worth. I think considering Obama spent 600 million to McCain’s 84 million, and Obama had the full force of the press completely behind him (and also before him, acting as a buffer and a shield) as well as some truly dubious voter registration issues (how can he lose Ohio when the Sec of State there wants him to win it so badly?) McCain’s numbers are pretty remarkable. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that with a money advantage of 500 million, great press and ACORN assists, (was it 200,000 votes the Sec State was keeping aside?) it’s almost embarrassing that Obama is not winning every state by 20%. 9:27 PM.

Tonight of all nights, my computer is acting up on me. Keeps locking up and I have to reboot, which sucks. I’ll update continuously from here:

This morning this guy – about whom I still know nothing, said:
“…the center which the storm will revolve around will be Pennslyvania.” Seems he was right. I’m getting emails saying Central PA and Western PA are going to cause the msm to walk it back and we’ll be in 2000 all over again. We’ll see. I can’t believe the press would want to do that, again. 9:19 PM.

Updates from Vodkapundit:

6:53PM Another ABC News mystery: PA got called before RI, which remains some dark mystery to the crew over there? What gives?

6:49PM With almost half of precincts reporting, McCain is still up by 8 points in VA. That’s getting tough to reconcile with the exit polling and the hearsay reports. What’s going on? A tighter race than expected, perhaps — odd, given Obama’s popularity and McCain’s lousy ground operation. 9:05 PM

McCain 50% Obama 49%?: Apparently there is some contention about Pennsylvania – the exit poll projections have been used to call precinct victories? I don’t get it. But I do believe there is “contention” about PA. It makes no sense that they would vote in a guy who want to bankrupt one of their industries. Seems strange to me. But then, I’m a cavewoman. 9:02 PM

Althouse: liveblogging it

Barone: Says not so fast on PA – he calls BS. Second thought: Not that I don’t like women in news – my first heroine was Nancy Dickerson, supernewswoman, but I truly hate the way modern newsgals seem to think they have to yell into their mics. 8:37 PM

CNN: Not calling PA until they see some votes

As I said the other day, the worst thing about Obama win will not be the Obama win. It will be seeing the press NOT defeated. They used to be my heroes. Now, as Tony Soprano said, they’re dead to me. 8:28 PM

Your guy lost!: I got one of those, too, by email about a half hour ago: “How does it feel to be a loser?” Hmmm…well, I don’t feel like a loser. Even if my candidate loses, I don’t feel like a loser. Your candidates had unprecedented help from a worshiping and utterly protective media that would not tell the nation much at all about them besides the fact that they were “great” and “really smart” and “cool.” My candidates had unprecedented ugliness thrown at them by the same media. And yet…it’s this close. More importantly, honey, if you’re this miserable and nasty in (presumed) victory, then I know that tomorrow I will still be happier than you. How sad is that? I’ve never seen worse winners than folks on the left. 8:24 PM
