I never thought it would happen to me!

You have to understand, I’m Miss Gets Christmas Shopping Done And Wrapped Early…

When I was pregnant with my Elder Son, I managed to work full time and decorate the whole house myself AND…have all of my gifts bought and wrapped by November 15…which was a good thing, too, because then I got really sick and was hospitalized almost until Christmas – but when I got out, boyo, you know everyone got their gifts on time!

Now, I work at home, and while I’m lugging extra weight around it’s not all in my tummy and making me wobble when I walk, but somehow my shopping was not done super-early. No matter how “finished” I thought I was, I would recheck a list and discover a name that got brain-blanked, or caught on some static in a synapse misfiring.

However it happened, I found myself – gasp – without a gift today. And it wasn’t one of those gifts I could skim by with a plate of cookies and a pound of coffee, no matter how amazing the brew.

I never thought I’d say it: Thank Gawd for Amazon Gift Cards. I can just print it out, put the paper in a little box along with pictures of the two things I thought my giftee might like – and would be opening, if I’d been a better shopper. They’re just suggestions, of course, but at least the thought gets conveyed! Did you know you can even email an Amazon Gift Card? Something to remember if you’re sitting an airport or coffee shop or someplace with no printer and you suddenly realize that you forgot a necessary gift.

Somehow, 24 years ago none of this seemed like work. It sucks to get older.
