Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, one of my favorite feasts, because Carmelites are beautiful, beautiful people, and because someone I love very much celebrates a birthday on this feastday!

From time to time, on this site
, we check in with our Carmelite friends. Of course, first and foremost, we know that the Carmelite Monks are the brilliant, bald chappies who provide us with the world’s greatest coffee! They are the only Carmelite Monks in the US (and they’re hoping to eventually have nuns sharing their expansive properties with them). There are also Carmelite Friars, who are not cloistered.

Carmelite Nuns and Sisters can also be cloistered or active, and though the nuns are very reclusive, and the sisters are very busy, both never seem to lack for vocations, no matter how remote the houses.

There are even Carmelite Hermits.

Great Carmelite Books:

The Interior Castle
The Dark Night of the Soul
Knowledge and Faith
The Story of a Soul
Letters from Carmel
Perfect Intimacy
Carmelite Prayer
To Quell the Terror; The Mystery of the Vocation of the 16 Carmelites of Compiegne
At the Fountain of Elijah: The Carmelite Tradition
Fire Within

Great Carmelite Saints:
St. Teresa of Avila
St. John of the Cross
St. Therese of Liseiux
Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity
Carmelite Martyrs of Compiègne
St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross
More Saints of Carmel
