AMERICA Centre of equal daughters, equal sons, All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old, Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich, Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love, A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother, Chair’d in the adamant of Time. — Walt Whitman I feel so relieved that this election is actually OVER and we’re not in any sort of “overtime” situation, that I could almost sing with it. But I dread the idea that we may... Read more

Good Luck, President-Elect Obama. You’ll be in charge of our Armed Forces – Commander-in-Chief to 2,200,000 brave men and women who serve and are willing to die for their country. You’ll understand when I say I hope you’re up to the task (your resume is pretty thin) and that you’ll think about what is best for those troops and the honorable victory they are achieving in Iraq, before you embark on the creation of your domestic army. To start, maybe,... Read more

Hmmmm…I actually listened to Rush at my desk today and seem to recall him saying that the networks would be calling PA for Obama before they even started counting the votes – presumably in order to set up a “theft” narrative if needed – and that is what’s just happened. Many people registering surprise that Pennsylvania has been instantly called Obama’s. Stephen Green asks just how many dead people voted in PA?. Others having some difficulty believing it: Ace, who... Read more

…a musical interlude. Russian countertenor Slava Kagan-Paley singing Cuccini’s Ave Maria. We were once driving up a mountain in Ireland, surrounded by fog, listening to a broadcast of this piece by an unknown soprano, and as it moved to its climax, we made it through the fog and into scene of such breathtaking beauty that this song has ever remained one of my faves. Enjoy. Read more

That’s my advice, and it’s Jim Geraghty’s advice, too: We have typically wildly contradictory data. We have Gawker’s initial numbers that would make McCain fans think they have a real shot, and Drudge, which has Obama ahead in Pennsylvania by 15. Drudge also has Ohio, Indiana, and Florida too close to call, which is… strange. It’s not easy to imagine a scenario in which Pennsylvania is a blowout, but demographically-similar Ohio is too close to call. We also are seeing... Read more

Election Anecdotes are here, but meanwhile… We all want what we want out of this election, but I am getting some emails from people that are downright frantic. I’m not sure there is room for “frantic” – and certainly not for despair – in the life of a believer. Yes, things seem chaotic, but there are always angels in the whirlwinds. Someone wrote early this morning, saying that she took comfort in Genesis 18, wherein we see the Lord telling... Read more

Buster says: Don’t be afraid! Go vote! PJTV: Will be airing at 8PM with a stellar lineup, so check it out. Also, Stephen Green is Drunkblogging election night and has already called Ohio for McCain, just because he wants to. 7:21 PM James Pethokoukis: In any event, not an Obama blowout, but he says the McCain camp is still cautiously optimistic and waiting to see the actual vote counts: Here is the latest from inside Team McCain: Florida looks good.... Read more

In 2000, the press declared the Florida polling places closed an hour before the precincts in the Panhandle – which runs at Central, not Eastern time – had closed. Thanks to that error – made over, and over, by every news outlet (hard to believe none of them understood about the panhandle, but seems they did not) – thousands of people, thinking the polls closed, may not have voted. Had they voted, the margin of victory in Florida might not... Read more

How does this lady think Obama is going to pay for her gasoline and her mortgage, and whatever else, when he is planning to bankrupt industries and make energy costs “skyrocket,” thus burdening business and consumers, raising unemployment and – necessarily – lowering tax revenues? No, we can’t talk enough about how destructive Barack Obama’s energy plans will be for the country. Neo-neocon looks at Obama’s lump of coal and sounds an alarm: Another blast from the Obama past has... Read more
