Doctor Who

Doctor Who January 10, 2015

… The reason I am an unapologetic fan of Doctor Who can be summed up in a single question.

“Clara, am I a good man?”

There are many reasons to love this show, and I suppose we each have our own individual reasons, but among fellow Catholics the answer always seems to revolve around the very Catholic nature of the show.

For one, the show is the epitome of universal.

Just google “Doctor Who and Catholicism” and you get some interesting results — 4 Ways the TARDIS helps me understand the Catholic Church by Billy Kangas, The Eucharistic TARDIS: Doctor Who, the Catholic Church, and the Hole in the Western Heart, Jesus and the TARDIS — just to highlight a few.

For me, the Doctors steals my heart time and time again with his desperate desire to be good. He wants to be a good man and to do good things but death and mayhem following him across time and space.

He never wants to kill, never asks his companions to kill, and typically gives the villain ample time to surrender to avoid being destroyed. Unless it’s a dalek. If it’s a dalek, destroy that shit.
